PASSIONATE PURSUIT...AFTER GOD'S OWN HEART

​I SAMUEL 21:1-6
Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said unto him, why art thou alone, and no man with thee?
And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, the king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, let no man know anything of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place.
David had been anointed, but he was not yet operating in his calling as king. He was running from his mentor and predecessor whom he at one appointed time had been armor-bearer. Saul, who refused to get his heart right and surrender completely to God had been troubled with jealousy. David escaped Saul and ran to the House of the priest. Sometimes we can know that we have been called by God to do a work and accept the calling and the anointing, but have no understanding of the Lord’s timing of things. While on the run from adversaries, David did not lean to his own understanding of things, but first took refuge in the House of God. He didn’t run to his mother. He didn’t run to his father or brothers. He didn’t even run back to Samuel the prophet who the Lord used to anoint him; He went to God. He put the fear of God in the priest because Ahimelech knew that he was royalty, but showed up alone. He didn’t have an entourage. He didn’t have an armor-bearer, no security guards. He was alone, seeking the face of God, empty and desperate.
David then spoke a spiritual word of encouragement to the priest so that he could be comforted and not be fearful concerning his presence. Although it may seem as though David was untruthful with the priest, David spoke of the spiritual king. The king of kings and Lord of lords, of whom he received his commission as well as his orders. So he said the Lord commanded him to go but to keep his business confidential as well as the location of the other servants’ whereabouts.
David was hungry and the priest fed him.
Now therefore what is under thine hand? Give me five loaves of bread in mine hand or what there is present.
And the priest answered David and said, there is no common bread under mine hand, but there is hallowed bread: if the young men have kept themselves at least from women.
And David answered the priest, and said unto him, of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel.
There is a bread that is not common to the people of God. In these last and evil days, it is not common to receive the true bread of life. Holy bread that soaks up the poisons of the world that the adversary attempts to deposit. The holy bread absorbs so that nothing can by any means harm us. That bread is sanctified and is not popular. However, the house of God that David was led to had hallowed bread. David told the priest that he and those with him were indeed sanctified unto God, and although it is not common , He said in a manner it is common to us.
It may not be common for some to walk in the truth and supp with the truth. However, David says it is common with them to feed on the hallowed bread. They are accustomed to holiness, even though there are many that are; seeing he present himself to the priest alone...holiness is not popular. Therefore, they did supp before the Lord. There is hallowed bread, but few seek him and few serve him.
