ISAIAH 51
Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the Lord: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and the hole of the pit whence ye are digged.
Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him.
For the Lord shall comfort Zion: He will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord; joy and gladness shall be found therein, Thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.
Hearken unto me, my people: and give ear unto me O my nation; for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people.
My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me, and on my arm shall they trust.
The Lord asked the question, Is his hand shortened at all that he cannot redeem? The Lord tells us to look to the rock of your salvation no matter the circumstance or the situation. Jesus Christ is our refuge and a very present help in the time of trouble. Ps 27:13 David cries out…I had fainted unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. He pleads with us to hearken unto him, meaning to believe his words. He will be a healer. He will be a deliverer to those who seek after righteousness. In the previous chapter prophet Isaiah cried unto that Lord that he had been given an understanding of things to speak to the weary. He said he refused to turn his back or be rebellious, but he gave himself to serve the Lord. Then he speaks that those who fear the Lord and desire righteousness look to Abraham whom He called him alone, blessed him, and enlarged his territory. I don’t know about you, but for those who have a calling on their life and have been afflicted in righteousness…Can you think of the day you were called? Were you alone? Abraham was alone. God told him to go to a place He would show him(Gen 12:1). Jacob also was alone when he encountered an angel of the Lord and wrestled, then seeing “Jacob’s ladder”, and received a new name in a lonely place. Moses was encountered at the burning bush alone when the Lord commissioned him to lead his children to their promise. Paul encountered the Lord on Damascus Road and he alone heard the voice of God while the others trembled, then being led later to Arabia conferred not with flesh and blood but to seek after the spirit of God. The God is our comforter and he promised his chosen the he would make what seemed to be a desolate place as though it were Eden…a place flowing with milk and honey. He will restore joy, gladness, and righteous judgment. The isles though they seem to have been isolated shall doubtless wait upon the Lord.
